Chapter 26.1 - Text Message (1)
The results for the first round of Olympic volunteer interviews have been released. Luo Zhi didn’t sign up from the start, but Sheng Huainan made it through smoothly.
The two of them began exchanging messages frequently.
What pleased Luo Zhi the most was that Sheng Huainan was the type of boy who became more fascinating the more you got to know him. In their chats, he was sometimes sharp and insightful, sometimes showing a bit of mischievousness and pride typical of boys.
To fall for someone without fully understanding them, only to realize that their real side is even better than you imagined—this could be considered lucky.
However, Sheng Huainan’s responses were sometimes quick, sometimes slow. Many times, Luo Zhi waited until she was exhausted, almost feeling paranoid, glancing at her phone, convinced it was vibrating. When replying to messages, she always had to think carefully—not just to continue his topic but also to leave a little space at the end so he could reply, thus keeping the conversation going.
Despite the occasional mental exhaustion, it was still sweet, and she often smiled to herself while holding her phone.
Before a class on Intermediate Macroeconomics, she was texting when a chubby girl came over and said, "Your dorm’s Jiang Bai Li , oh my."
Luo Zhi didn’t really like this chubby girl, as she reminded her of Xu Qiiao. She smiled politely, pretending she hadn’t heard, and greeted her briefly.
“I’m talking about your dorm’s Bai li. Oh my.” The girl repeated herself.
"Ugh," Luo Zhi thought, feeling this girl was even more annoying than Xu Qiiao because, at least Xu Qiiao cared about her image and only shared gossip with people who enjoyed it, whereas this girl’s persistence left Luo Zhi with no escape.
“What does your dorm’s Jiang Bai Li think? I suspect she’s a little crazy. You know, during the Olympic volunteer interview, we four were in the same group. The question she got was, ‘If you and your volunteer partner are in an office together, and the others suggest playing poker, what would you do?’”
“And then?” Luo Zhi asked, expressionless.
“Oh, then, Jiang Bai Li said, ‘Well, I’d just tell them to count me in.’”
Luo Zhi couldn’t hold back and laughed out loud. The chubby girl was pleased to see her reaction.
As Bai Li walked by, Luo Zhi tossed her homework book at her with a smile. The chubby girl, a bit startled, stepped aside.
“Help me turn in the homework, I’m going back to take a nap. You copied from me, so just don’t put ours together when you hand them in.”
Luo Zhi had no idea what was going on with Ge Bi now. She had been staying up late reading novels, surfing the web, and daydreaming, barely leaving the dorm.
As a result, her dates with Ge Bi had definitely decreased, and she often asked Luo Zhi to bring her takeout back to the dorm.
Luo Zhi never asked her how she was doing, only occasionally reminding her, "The midterms are coming, better get serious."
“I don’t really have any big goals, it’s fine as long as I pass the exam,” Bai Li said, lifting her head from the computer and smiling at her.
Luo Zhi didn’t have any grand ambitions either, but she had gotten used to moving forward, feeling compelled to fight for what she wanted.
People with grudges often have stronger motivation than others.
At this point, she suddenly thought of Sheng Huainan.
The teacher entered through the door, looking puzzled at Jiang Bai Li , who was yawning and heading in the opposite direction.
In a class of a hundred people, it was hard to remember everyone’s name, especially someone like Bai Li , who almost never appeared.
“By the way, Luo Zhi, good luck.”
